Veteran soprano saxophonist Mikael Godée tours Belgium with Swedish colleagues and local star Eve Beuvens, uniting global jazz scenes and strengthening cultural exchange.

Mikael Godée, a long experienced soprano saxophonist and composer, has been touring with his jazz music all over the world. Together with two of his fellow, Swedish musicians, he perform on Belgian stages with Eve Beuvens, one of Belgium’s most exciting jazz musicians. Tours that would not be possible to carry out without the funding from The PK Hedborg Foundation.

– We tour in Belgium several times a year. I take care of the planning, booking and the applications to the foundation. The grants we have received so far cover costs for travel and accommodation. Thanks to the foundation, we can cooperate and exchange our musical experiences. Another important aspect is that these tours form a solid base for my own professional life, says Mikael Godée.

The fact that his daughter and her family is living in Brussels, strengthens his ambition to create stronger ties to Belgium in general and the Belgian music life in particular.

– Actually, I see myself as an ambassador for my art form and for my hometown Gothenburg. The PK Foundation grants that I have received over the years, make it easier to show myself in times where the cut down in the cultural sector is continuing. The support from foundations such as The PK Foundation is therefore even more important today, says Mikael Godée.

He is grateful for the support and look forward to continuing and deepen the cooperation with his Belgian colleagues.

– Although I am technically retired, I have a lot of engagements ahead of me. Now I can be more selective about which gigs I choose and avoid the disadvantages with the tour life. Suddenly I have time to actually see the places where I play!
