Swedish dancer Elin Hallqvist, born in Lund and now freelancing between Sweden and Belgium, has secured a PK Hedborg foundation grant to develop a new interdisciplinary performance and rework her acclaimed solo project.

Elin Hallqvist was born and raised in Lund. She graduated from Lund’s Dance and Musical Upper Secondary School in 2018 and continued her education in both Sweden, at Härnösands folkhögskola, and abroad.

During her last year of a dance bachelor’s degree at ArtEZ in the Netherlands, she was accepted as an intern at the dance company Cullberg in Sweden.

– Today, I am working as a freelance dancer, commuting between Sweden and Belgium. During my studies, I spent a lot of time in Belgium and have a lot of connections here, says Elin Hallqvist.

The grant from The PK Hedborg foundation provides time and possibilities to develop her dancing performance and create a new performance out of her previous study and solo project “Discovering the potential of being (a body) – bodying”.

Taking part in relevant workshops that contribute to the reworking of her solo project, is also important. This work also involves purchasing material and costumes, as well as studio time for rehearsal.

– It is a security to get supported while spending time and focusing on finalizing my solo project. As for the future, my plan is to continue pursuing my artistry and meet interesting collaborators. It takes a while to find out how you want your professional future to develop. What I do know is that I want to work within different disciplines and cooperate and create interdisciplinary projects – performances that I would have liked to watch and take part of myself, says Elin Hallqvist.
